Founding Engineer

Cartage is building Wilson, an AI that coordinates freight for manufacturers and distributors—handling the tedious work of booking, tracking, and managing shipments end-to-end. Their customers range from lumber mills to furniture manufacturers.

As a Founding Engineer, you'll work directly with the founders to build foundational systems that will define the future of freight movement. The role offers significant autonomy and ownership, with no layers of management between you and the product.

Key Responsibilities:

• Scale the architecture to handle 10x traffic spikes while maintaining performance
• Build and own tooling for AI model monitoring, evaluation, and automated retraining
• Own product development end-to-end, from customer conversations to shipping solutions
• Develop deep integrations with Slack and Microsoft Teams for real-time shipment tracking

The ideal candidate is:

• A builder who thinks in terms of customer impact and takes pride in shipping real solutions
• Self-directed and comfortable moving fast through ambiguity
• Full-stack capable, able to handle everything from UI to API development to AI fine-tuning
