The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) is seeking a Staff AI/ML Research Engineer specializing in Generative AI to join their cutting-edge team. Founded by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, CZI aims to solve society's toughest challenges, with a focus on accelerating biomedical science through innovative technology.

As a Staff AI/ML Research Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of applying state-of-the-art AI and machine learning models to critical problems in biomedical sciences. You'll work on one of the largest computing systems dedicated to nonprofit life science research, developing predictive models of healthy and diseased cells that could lead to groundbreaking discoveries in disease prevention and management.

Your role will involve collaborating with a diverse team of scientists, computational biologists, and engineers both within CZI and external partners. You'll be responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining large-scale machine learning models and AI agents for scientific discovery. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with CZI's impressive 1000xH100 GPU compute cluster, allowing you to push the boundaries of what's possible in AI for science.

Key responsibilities include optimizing and deploying models for both batch and real-time inference, working with multimodal biological data types, and serving as a crucial interface between research and product teams. You'll also have the chance to contribute to open science practices, furthering CZI's mission of accelerating scientific progress.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science with a focus on machine learning, demonstrated expertise in distributed computing frameworks, and experience with large-scale AI model development. You should be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment and have excellent communication skills.

CZI offers a competitive salary range of $214,000 - $321,000, along with comprehensive benefits including 401(k) matching, flexible spending options, and various insurance coverages.
