Description For Hardware Engineer - Hardware Validation Testing

Join the Service Provider Hardware Team inside Cisco's Common Hardware Group (CHG). This team develops groundbreaking routers deployed in Service Providers and Data Centers worldwide.

As a Hardware Engineer on the Hardware Design Validation Test (DVT) team, you will be a critical member of the EDVT (Electrical), MDVT (Mechanical), PDVT (Power), or DVT Automation team. You will work closely with multi-functional teams (Hardware Development, Diagnostics/ Software Development, Mechanical, SI, Power, Thermal, Compliance, and Manufacturing).

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, and testing innovative hardware
  • Defining test processes and procedures
  • Writing complete unit and system-level test plans
  • Implementing end-to-end test execution
  • Debugging and isolating complex problems
  • Supporting Design Engineers on complex issues
  • Performing power supply qualification and system power analysis
  • Identifying test and process improvements
  • Helping with root cause field issues and customer partner concerns
  • Performing thermal design qualification and characterization

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering with 7+ years of experience, or Master's with 5+ years of experience
  • Experience with Hardware Validation Testing and Processes (Electrical or Power)
  • Experience with debugging routing, switching, and networking systems

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of hardware blocks & subsystems
  • Experience with Electrical Test and Measurement Equipment
  • Experience with Mechanical Test Equipment
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Design principles and Environmental Test Standards
  • Knowledge of scripting languages or automation tools
  • Understanding of OSI model, LAN/WAN topologies, and basic router and switch configurations
