Principal Engineer, Distributed Data Systems

CloudZero is seeking a Principal Engineer for Distributed Data Systems to revolutionize their data pipeline architecture at an unprecedented scale. The position requires someone who has extensive experience pushing traditional database architectures to their limits and can envision solutions for handling massive scale. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing systems that can accommodate customers 5-10x larger than current ones without requiring frequent architectural overhauls.

Key responsibilities include architecting for hyper-scale, driving simplicity in complex systems, mentoring other engineers, and influencing technical direction across the organization. The role demands someone who can translate complex technical decisions into clear business strategy while maintaining system reliability and performance.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of experience in building and scaling complex data systems, with a proven track record at early- or growth-stage SaaS companies. They should have deep expertise in large-scale data pipelines and distributed systems, along with strong system design knowledge.
