Datadog, a leading global SaaS business, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Release Platforms team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on expanding and scaling internal Kubernetes resource management and deployment automation systems. As a Staff Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of designing and driving the internal systems that enable Datadog's engineers to safely and reliably release code into their global cloud infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include making key technical decisions for next-generation Kubernetes resource management and distribution mechanisms, as well as expanding the automated deployments platform. You'll lead high-priority projects to enhance the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams. Your expertise will be crucial in guiding other engineers through architectural decisions and identifying potential system risks.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in leading cross-team initiatives in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment, with significant experience in back-end programming and distributed systems. Responsibilities

  • Design and drive high-priority, high-visibility projects to increase the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams
  • Provide technical leadership across one or several areas of the platform
  • Lead and guide other engineers through architectural platform decisions
  • Identify potential system risks and trends in reliability and design solutions to address them
  • Provide input on prioritizing engineering-led initiatives in short- and long-term planning and roadmaps
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams to understand their requirements and plan for their product growth

Requirements

Kubernetes
  • Led cross-team initiatives in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment for several years
  • Led impactful technical initiatives in an environment where performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience/operability are first-order concerns
  • Significant back-end programming experience
  • Architected, built, and operated distributed systems to solve problems at a high scale
  • Enjoy mentoring and coaching other engineers
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent experience
