Description For Lead Data Engineer

At Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, we're at the forefront of reimagining magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while transforming Disney's media business for the future. The Product & Data Engineering team plays a crucial role in developing end-to-end solutions for Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, as well as digital products across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News.

As a Lead Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for building and maintaining the Audience Manager Platform (AMP), a centralized Disney audience data platform that captures and processes all Disney consumers' cross-channel behavior. This platform delivers various data summarizations to multiple endpoints, supporting diverse business needs across the organization. The role requires expert knowledge in building scalable, fault-tolerant data processing pipelines and backend systems to ensure reliable delivery of audience data.

You'll work with cutting-edge technologies and distributed systems, including Spark, Hadoop, and cloud technologies like AWS. The position offers the opportunity to impact millions of consumers worldwide through Disney's streaming platforms and digital experiences. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and help shape the future of Disney's data infrastructure.

The role comes with competitive compensation, including a base salary range of $149,300 to $209,600 (varying by location), potential bonuses, long-term incentives, and comprehensive benefits. Responsibilities For Lead Data Engineer

  • Build and maintain product-driven initiatives for the Unified Messaging Platform
  • Promote and support Agile methodologies
  • Collaborate with squad, Product Managers, Designers, QA, and Operations
  • Participate in on-call support
  • Serve as an advanced resource to other Data Engineers
  • Mentor and coach junior team members

Requirements For Lead Data Engineer

Python

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field
  • Minimum 7 years of big data engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Presto, PySpark)
  • Strong Python and SQL skills processing big datasets
  • Experience with MPP or cloud database technology
  • Familiarity with Data Modeling techniques
  • Problem solving skills with strong attention to detail
