Description For Lead Software Engineer

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive the development of world-class user experiences across their digital platforms. This role sits at the intersection of technology and creativity, working on products that serve millions of users globally through brands like Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, and ABC.

The position involves leading the design and implementation of React-based applications, ensuring seamless, high-performance interfaces that deliver Disney's entertainment and sports content worldwide. As a technical leader, you'll architect scalable front-end solutions, optimize state management with Redux, and collaborate across teams to deliver innovative viewing experiences.

The role requires deep expertise in modern JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Redux, and front-end performance optimization. You'll be responsible for mentoring other developers, setting technical direction, and maintaining high standards through code reviews. The position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects that shape the future of Disney's media business.

Working in the Content Platforms & Operations team, you'll be part of the group responsible for Disney's media supply chain, network distribution, media localization, and network transmission. The role provides a unique opportunity to work with Disney's global teams across EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regions.

Responsibilities For Lead Software Engineer

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of React-based user interfaces
  • Architect scalable, reusable, and high-performance front-end solutions
  • Implement best practices in front-end performance, accessibility, and security
  • Mentor and guide React developers and contractors
  • Conduct code reviews and provide feedback
  • Set technical direction for front-end development
  • Work with product managers, designers, and backend engineers
  • Collaborate with DevOps and QA teams
  • Optimize performance and implement best practices for lazy loading, code splitting, and caching
  • Monitor and address bugs, errors, and performance issues

Requirements For Lead Software Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of front-end development experience with React
  • 3+ years of experience leading UI development efforts
  • Experience with React, Redux, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
  • Strong understanding of state management patterns, component lifecycle, and hooks
  • Experience with frontend performance optimization techniques
  • Expertise in CSS and responsive design principles
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and cloud deployment
  • Strong ability to mentor and guide junior and mid-level React developers
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
