Description For Lead Software Engineer

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology (DEEP&T) is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join their Commerce, Data & Identity team. This role focuses on building and maintaining data pipelines and enrichment solutions using Apache Spark.

The position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of technology and entertainment, building products that serve millions of users worldwide. You'll be part of a team that powers digital commerce, identity, and growth initiatives across The Walt Disney Company's media portfolio including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, ABC, and ABC News.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and developing scalable data processing pipelines, implementing data enrichment solutions, and optimizing performance of Spark applications. You'll work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet business needs.

The role requires expertise in big data technologies, strong programming skills, and experience with cloud platforms. You'll be working in a collaborative environment where you can make a significant impact on Disney's media technology infrastructure.

Benefits include competitive salary ranges based on location:

  • Santa Monica: $152,200 to $204,100
  • Seattle: $159,500 to $213,900
  • New York: $159,500 to $213,900
  • San Francisco: $166,800 to $223,600

Responsibilities For Lead Software Engineer

  • Design and develop scalable data processing pipelines using Apache Spark

Requirements For Lead Software Engineer

Java
Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering with focus on big data processing
  • Proficiency in Apache Spark and its components
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Scala, Python
  • Experience with big data ecosystems (Hadoop, Hive)
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Experience with cloud databases (Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks Delta Lake)
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
  • Strong communication skills
