The Video Playback Engineering team at Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for their Roku platform. This role is crucial in designing and maintaining media playback solutions that span across Disney's direct-to-consumer brands including Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu.

The position involves working with a unified Product Engineering team responsible for engineering Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. The Media Engineering team specifically builds software and systems that prepare media content and metadata for the Disney Streaming platform, ensuring optimal playback experience for viewers.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll be working on the Roku playback library, collaborating with media playback teams across platforms to ensure consistent software architecture. The role demands expertise in video streaming technologies and the ability to optimize the Disney Streaming technology stack for the best possible streaming experience on all devices.

The position offers competitive compensation varying by location, with base salary ranges from $152,200 to $223,600 depending on the city. Requirements For Lead Software Engineer - Roku

JavaScript
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study
  • Minimum of 7 years experience of related work experience
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills
  • 2 Years experience building apps for Roku using Brightscript
  • Proven track record at a senior and lead software engineering level
  • Experience working directly with Video Playback technologies (MSE/EME, HLS, MPEG-DASH, Transport Stream, CMAF) preferred
