Description For Senior Software Engineer - Media Management Tools [Contract]

At Walt Disney Animation Studios, we have a deep commitment to the philosophy that creativity inspires technology, and technology inspires creativity. This exciting Senior Software Engineer role in our Production Technology department offers a unique opportunity to develop cutting-edge media management and video playback applications that directly impact the creation of world-class animated content.

As a Senior Software Engineer focusing on Media Management Tools, you'll be working on critical playback and review tools that are fundamental to our creative process. You'll be developing and extending our proprietary media management application (dpix) and creating new customizations for Autodesk's RV Playback App, including advanced color pipeline implementations and real-time synced reviews between desktop and mobile devices.

What makes this role special is the highly collaborative environment where you'll work directly with artists, production leadership, technical directors, and cross-team engineers. You'll be implementing groundbreaking features that elevate how we review and create animated content, while having the opportunity to work on the full stack of our tools - from developing underlying algorithms to building intuitive artist-friendly interfaces.

The position requires strong technical skills, particularly in Python and database management, combined with excellent collaboration and communication abilities. You'll be working with a team that values software craftsmanship and puts the customer experience first. The role offers the chance to be part of Walt Disney Animation Studios' legacy of innovation and creativity, contributing to the technology that helps create some of the world's most beloved animated films.

This is a 12-month contract position based in Vancouver, Canada, offering competitive compensation (C$130,000 to C$157,000 per year) and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in animation. You'll be part of a studio that has created timeless classics from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" to recent hits like "Encanto" and the upcoming "Moana 2."

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in developing complex user-facing software, preferably in a studio environment, along with strong Python skills and database expertise. Knowledge of studio production processes and familiarity with OpenColorIO, OpenImageIO, or OpenTimelineIO would be advantageous. If you're passionate about combining technology and creativity to push the boundaries of animation, this role offers an exciting opportunity to make your mark in the entertainment industry.
