Description For Software Engineer I

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Software Engineer I to join their Media Engineering team, specifically the Media Processing and Distribution (MPD) Core Media team. This role will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of Video-on-Demand (VOD) workflow orchestration for Disney's streaming platforms (Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the design, implementation, integration, deployment, and support of a complex orchestration system
  • Participating in small to mid-size project planning, requirements discovery, and task breakdowns
  • Developing a strong understanding of Disney Streaming's VOD workflows and orchestration system components
  • Debugging complex issues across multiple systems in QA and production environments
  • Applying Agile methodology and practices
  • Collaborating with team members and stakeholders across adjacent teams

Required qualifications:

  • BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a virtual team setting

Preferred qualifications:

  • One year of related work experience or internship
  • Experience in building Web Applications in Java or other Object-Oriented Programming languages
  • Experience with relational / NoSQL databases
