Description For Software Engineer I

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Software Engineer I to join their Roku Client Application Engineering Team. This role is crucial in developing the Disney+ streaming application, which delivers content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Hulu, ESPN, NatGeo, and ABC News. The position offers an opportunity to work on one of the most popular streaming platforms, building and enhancing the viewer experience through frontend development.

The role involves working with BrightScript and Roku SceneGraph SDK to create engaging user interfaces and features. You'll be part of a team that pushes the boundaries of what's possible on 10-foot devices, contributing to everything from onboarding experiences to video playback UI/UX. Responsibilities For Software Engineer I

  • Build client app experiences in BrightScript using Roku SceneGraph SDK
  • Develop new application features from on-boarding to browse UI/UX experiences
  • Contribute to development of tools and systems including JavaScript & React-based web tools
  • Work with Roku to vet new hardware, firmware and certification requirements
  • Collaborate with SDK engineering, design engineering, and services engineering teams

Requirements For Software Engineer I

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working on user interface-level code
  • Knowledge of common patterns and architectures (MVVM, MVC, React, etc.)
  • Familiarity with development and troubleshooting on set-top boxes or Smart TVs
  • Ability to work with reusable utilities and UI components
