Description For Software Engineer I

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Software Engineer I to join their Roku Client Application Engineering Team. This role is part of a global organization that builds and advances the technological backbone for Disney's media business worldwide. As a Software Engineer I, you'll be working on the Disney+ Direct-to-Consumer client app for Roku streaming devices and smart TVs, helping to deliver content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Hulu, ESPN, NatGeo, and ABC News.

The position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of technology and creativity, building world-class products that enhance storytelling and drive innovation. You'll be part of the team responsible for developing client app experiences using BrightScript and the Roku SceneGraph SDK, working on everything from onboarding to browse UI/UX experiences, analytics, and video playback interfaces.

The role involves collaboration with various teams, including client SDK engineering, design engineering, and services engineering, to create seamless viewing experiences. You'll also have the chance to contribute to tools and systems development using JavaScript, React, gulp build scripts, AWS configurations, and Node.js services.

Responsibilities For Software Engineer I

  • Build client app experiences in BrightScript using Roku SceneGraph SDK
  • Develop new application features from on-boarding to browse UI/UX experiences
  • Contribute to analytics and video playback UI/UX development
  • Work on JavaScript & React-based web tools, gulp build scripts, AWS configurations, and Node.js services
  • Collaborate with Roku to vet new hardware, firmware and certification requirements
  • Work with client SDK engineering, design engineering, services engineering teams and product owners

Requirements For Software Engineer I

JavaScript

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field
  • Experience working on user interface-level code
  • Knowledge of common patterns and architectures (MVVM, MVC, React, etc.)
  • Familiarity with development and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in using reusable utilities and UI components
