Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is seeking a Software Engineer II to join their Watch Experience team. This backend-leaning full stack role focuses on powering APIs and infrastructure used across multiple client platforms including tvOS, Web, Mobile, Smart TVs, and Game Consoles for major brands like ESPN, Disney+, and Hulu.
The position involves working with Java Spring Boot APIs, HAProxy, AWS ECS, and Angular apps, while utilizing observability tools like DataDog, CloudWatch, and New Relic. The role is critical in delivering content metadata, playback configurations, personalization, and curated experiences at scale.
As part of the Watch Experience team, you'll be responsible for building and maintaining backend APIs that serve millions of users, collaborating with various client app teams, and ensuring system resiliency during live sporting events. The role includes participation in LiveOps and OnCall rotations, especially during major sports and media events.
The ideal candidate should have 3+ years of experience with Java development, strong knowledge of cloud-native development (particularly AWS), and familiarity with monitoring and observability tools. Experience with frontend development using Angular or similar frameworks is a plus, as is exposure to media/streaming workflows.
The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $114,900 to $168,700 depending on location (Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, or San Francisco), plus bonus potential and comprehensive benefits.
