Description For Sr Media Systems Engineer

Disney Media Systems Engineers have a clear charter: to transform the capability and flexibility of how Disney acquires, produces, and distributes content worldwide, all while ensuring the highest levels of quality, efficiency, and resiliency.

The Sr. Media Systems Engineer is an expert engineer in the acquisition, production, and distribution of media content. They are well-versed in multiple technical standards and have hands-on experience in both the sustainment and design/build of production systems. The Sr. Media Systems Engineer primarily focuses on architecting, designing, and constructing the varied technical platforms that power our linear and digital platforms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Architect, design, source, and construct media technology environments
  • Resolve issues affecting acquisition, production, and content distribution
  • Analyze and troubleshoot streaming audio/video signals in traditional SDI and IP 2110 essence flow routing environments
  • Analyze and troubleshoot cloud platforms as necessary
  • Manage third-party service providers
  • Develop long-range plans for future media technology needs
  • Provide operational support for audio and video production/distribution systems
  • Participate in engineering projects and system upgrades

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in media production and distribution
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell, C or C++)
  • Knowledge of SMPTE standards, cloud infrastructure, compression techniques, and major media systems
  • Experience with IP-based broadcast equipment and various production systems

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell, C or C++)
  • Knowledge of SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production/streaming environments
  • Experience with on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms
  • Knowledge of compression techniques (MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, JPEG XS)
  • Experience with major media systems and vendors in areas such as asset management, file-based workflows, media acquisition, transcoding/encoding, graphics, and NAS/SAN technologies
  • Ability to create, read and interpret AutoCAD and other technical drawing/documentation tools
  • Experience designing and building IP-based broadcast equipment
  • Physical requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work on raised structures and building roofs, operate aerial lift platforms, and have a valid driver's license
