Description For DevOps Engineer

Enigmatic Smile is a fintech scale-up with a distributed team based primarily in Glasgow, Scotland. As a DevOps engineer, you'll be responsible for scaling infrastructure and supporting application deployment across various environments. Security is paramount, requiring strict adherence to PCI and ISO policies. The role involves working closely with the Cyber Security Manager to maintain infrastructure security.

The company serves worldwide customers with varying requirements supported through their platform. The team is distributed across the UK and Portugal, with the wider team spanning multiple continents. Working in European timezone (GMT +/- 2h), the position is primarily remote with occasional travel/office visits.

Key responsibilities include building and implementing development tools, automating processes, managing AWS infrastructure (Kafka, EKS, Redshift, CloudWatch), ensuring cybersecurity compliance (PCI DSS Level 1 and ISO27001), and collaborating with software developers to maintain established processes.

Responsibilities For DevOps Engineer

  • Deploy updates and fixes and provide Level 2 technical support
  • Build tools to reduce the occurrence of errors and improve customer experience
  • Develop software to integrate with internal back-end systems (data)
  • Perform root cause analysis of production errors and resolve technical issues
  • Develop scripts to automate visualisation (management tools such as Sentry and Grafana)
  • Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance

Requirements For DevOps Engineer

Linux

  • Experience as a DevOps engineer or in a similar software engineering role
  • A strong understanding of Linux and containerisation, including transition to containers from traditional configurations
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows
  • Good knowledge of common development languages and tools
  • Working knowledge of databases, both NoSQL/Document and SQL
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • Collaborative team spirit
