Description For Platform Engineering Lead, LEGO Fortnite

Epic Games is seeking a Platform Engineering Lead for the LEGO Fortnite project, a groundbreaking collaboration blending the Fortnite universe with LEGO's creativity. As the lead for the Core Tech team, you'll manage and provide technical leadership for the Platform team, responsible for supporting all devices in the Fortnite ecosystem, performance, memory optimization, and delivering core tech needs.

Your role involves balancing team capabilities, identifying and tasking out work, and ensuring shipping quality for future updates. You'll lead a dedicated team of developers while collaborating closely with other Core Tech teams across Unreal Engine and Fortnite. This position offers the exciting opportunity to work on a brand-new game experience that will reach players worldwide.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a tight-knit group of Platform developers
  • Collaborating with production to balance team capabilities with project needs
  • Leading the design and implementation of new engine runtime features
  • Developing APIs and supporting tools for the project
  • Analyzing and optimizing memory and performance across various systems
  • Collaborating with teams across Epic Games
  • Contributing to the broader design and implementation of the project

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Management and technical leadership experience
  • Experience with Unreal Engine (UE4 or UE5)
  • Broad programming experience in shipping games or real-time visualization systems
  • Expertise in optimization and workflow improvements
  • Strong software programming principles
  • Excellent communication skills in a cross-disciplinary environment
  • A fearless attitude towards making profound changes to existing systems
  • Experience developing in large codebases at a fast pace

Responsibilities For Platform Engineering Lead, LEGO Fortnite

  • Manage a tight knit group of Platform developers and ensure a healthy, sustainable, productive environment
  • Work closely with production to balance the broad capabilities of the team with project needs and timelines
  • Lead a team to design and implement new engine runtime features for the game, and the Unreal Engine itself
  • Lead a team to design and implement APIs and supporting tools as required by the demands of the project
  • Analyze and optimize both memory and performance in systems that have to scale from high-end to mobile systems
  • Collaborate with other teams and disciplines across Epic
  • Contribute to the broader design and implementation of the whole project

Requirements For Platform Engineering Lead, LEGO Fortnite

  • Management and technical leadership experience, ideally of teams with diverse skill sets and many partnerships
  • Experience with Unreal Engine (UE4 or UE5) is ideal
  • Experience in a broad range of programming areas on shipping games or real time visualization systems, with special attention given to low-level code
  • Experience with deep optimization and workflow improvements
  • Well-versed in software programming principles
  • Experience in a cross-disciplinary development environment with excellent communication skills
  • Fearless attitude to making deep and profound changes to an existing engine
  • Experience developing in a large codebase at a fast pace, making trade-offs between usability, performance, and robustness
