Description For Propulsion Engineer Intern

Flyability, a pioneer in the UAV indoor inspection industry with over 100 employees, is seeking a Propulsion Engineer Intern to join their creative and dynamic team in Lausanne. This hands-on position offers an opportunity to dive into the fast-growing drone industry and gain rewarding experience in a dynamic start-up environment.

As a Propulsion Engineer Intern, you will join the Flyability Propulsion Lab, working on the propulsion system of next-generation UAVs. Your role will involve tackling propulsion-related challenges and pushing the boundaries of what UAVs can do in indoor environments. The position covers a broad field, including lithium batteries, speed controllers, motors, and propellers, allowing for tailoring the job description to your interests and competencies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing testing jigs and prototypes
  • Performing experimental components testing and post-processing acquired data
  • Benchmarking components and suppliers

This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to improving the lives of millions of people and build the future of robotics. Flyability values independent thinking combined with a collaborative spirit, providing daily opportunities to share ideas and contribute to problem-solving.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Good theoretical and practical electrical engineering skills
  • Basic knowledge of lithium battery operation and aerodynamics of flying vehicles
  • Experience in prototype conception and functional samples
  • Practical prototyping skills (3D printing, soldering, CNC)
  • Knowledge of Python, MATLAB, SolidWorks, ALTIUM, etc.
  • Experience with model planes/drones is a big plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an eye for detail
  • Very good English skills (French or additional languages are a plus)

Flyability encourages applications from all candidates, regardless of past experience or resume, recognizing that confidence gaps and impostor syndrome can deter spectacular candidates. Join Flyability in their mission to send robots into hazardous places and dangerous situations instead of humans, and be part of shaping the future of indoor drone technology.
