Description For Controls Engineer

General Motors is seeking a Controls Engineer for their Spring Hill, Tennessee facility. This role combines electrical engineering and software development skills in an industrial automation context. The position involves working with PLCs, industrial networks, and robotic systems to maintain and improve manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing controls, with expertise in various industrial automation platforms including Siemens and Rockwell systems.

The role offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of software and hardware, implementing and maintaining critical control systems in a major automotive manufacturing facility. You'll be responsible for programming and troubleshooting PLCs, working with industrial networks, and integrating new technologies into existing systems. The position requires hands-on work on the production floor, collaborating with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality teams.

This is an onsite position that may require overtime and off-shift production support, demonstrating the critical nature of the role in maintaining and improving manufacturing operations. Responsibilities For Controls Engineer

  • Configure, program, test and troubleshoot PLC based control systems and associated components
  • Electrical troubleshooting and testing of controls systems, control panels, and associated equipment
  • Diagnose and correct deficiencies in manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Develop innovative solutions
  • Support and actively interact with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality groups
  • Continuously improve quality, cost, responsiveness & safety
  • Integration of new technologies into existing architectures
  • Develop timelines, project scope of work, and manage coordination of resources and OEM's

Requirements For Controls Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical or mechatronics engineering, or equivalent automation controls engineering experience
  • 1-3 years of Controls experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in industrial networking protocols – Profibus, Profinet, TCP/IP, and EtherNetIP
  • Experience with HMI – Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell FactoryTalk View
  • Experience with PLC – Rockwell ControlLogix and/or Siemens 300 families
  • Knowledge of Servo drive systems – Siemens G120 and S120 families, and Rockwell Powerflex and Kinetix
  • Experience with Vision Cameras
  • Fanuc or Siemens CNC experience
  • Fanuc Robot Programming experience
  • Ability to work overtime and off-shift production support
