Description For Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack Web Development

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Brands & Marketing Software Engineering Team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization. This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX, requiring on-site presence three times per week.

The role involves leading engineering efforts for web products across GM, working with a team that collaborates closely with marketing leaders to build innovative customer experiences at scale. As a technical leader, you'll be responsible for mentoring less experienced engineers, building relationships with technical leaders across teams, and fostering a strong team culture.

The position requires extensive experience in web application development, particularly with frontend technologies. You'll work with modern JavaScript frameworks, cloud technologies, and be responsible for architecture decisions that impact large-scale systems. The ideal candidate should have 8+ years of experience and strong expertise in JavaScript, React, and cloud technologies.

Responsibilities For Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack Web Development

  • Develop competency across complete web technologies stack (client, framework, and services)
  • Produce high quality software with unit tests and code reviews
  • Mentor other engineers on the team as a tech lead
  • Investigate & resolve performance bottlenecks
  • Lead efforts to automate testing
  • Work on API, Content management, edge and cloud systems
  • Ensure adherence to engineering best practices

Requirements For Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack Web Development

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in web application development with frontend technologies
  • Expertise with JavaScript Web Components, Custom Elements, JS ES2020+
  • Experience with ReactJS
  • Experience with Automation Tasks, Kubernetes, CDNs/Edge Compute and/or Microsoft Azure
  • 5+ years of experience in architecture, documentation and system design
  • Client-side performance analysis and unit testing knowledge
  • Experience with HTTP APIs (REST, GraphQL) and Content Management Systems
  • Must be able to debug code and tests
