Description For Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack Web Development

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Brands & Marketing Software Engineering Team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization. This role is based in Austin, TX with a hybrid work arrangement requiring minimum three days per week in office.

The position involves leading engineering efforts for web products across GM, working with a team that collaborates closely with marketing leaders to build engaging customer experiences at scale. As a technical leader, you'll mentor less experienced engineers, build relationships with technical leaders across teams, and help shape team culture.

The role requires expertise in full-stack web development, with particular emphasis on frontend technologies. You'll work with modern JavaScript frameworks, cloud technologies, and content management systems. Key responsibilities include architecture design, performance optimization, and ensuring engineering best practices.

Responsibilities For Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack Web Development

  • Develop competency across complete web technologies stack
  • Produce high quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly
  • Be a tech lead and actively mentor other engineers on the team
  • Investigate & resolve performance bottlenecks
  • Lead efforts to automate testing
  • Work on API, Content management, edge and cloud systems
  • Ensure adherence to engineering best practices

Requirements For Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack Web Development

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in web application development with focus on frontend technologies
  • Expertise with JavaScript Web Components, Custom Elements, JS ES2020+
  • Experience with Automation Tasks, Kubernetes, CDNs/Edge Compute and/or Microsoft Azure
  • 5+ years of experience contributing to architecture, documentation and design of systems
  • Must be able to do client-side performance analysis, write unit tests, and be knowledgeable about accessibility
  • Experience working with multi-tier production software systems utilizing HTTP APIs and Content Management Systems
