Google is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead their Semantic User Location Platform, a critical service that helps build accurate models of how over 2 billion people interact with the physical world. This senior leadership role will oversee a team of 45+ engineers working on client/server infrastructure, machine learning models, and privacy-forward solutions.
The position requires a seasoned technical leader with 15+ years of industry experience who can drive strategy and execution across multiple teams including Maps, Ads, and Android. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in building privacy-conscious systems and experience applying machine learning at scale.
As Director, you'll be responsible for developing the platform's strategic direction while ensuring strong collaboration across engineering, product, legal and privacy teams. You'll need to balance technical depth with executive communication skills to drive complex initiatives forward.
The role offers an opportunity to shape how billions of users interact with Google's location-based services while maintaining the highest standards of user privacy. You'll work from either Mountain View or New York, leading teams that power critical Google products including Maps, Sustainability, UGC and Ads.
The compensation package includes a base salary range of $294,000-$414,000 plus bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits. - Lead a team of 45+ engineers spanning client/server infrastructure, ML models/quality, feature development, data pipelines, and federated analytics
- Develop the strategy and drive execution for business-critical efforts requiring strong partnership across teams
- Lead the design of privacy-forward solutions based on a nuanced understanding of the privacy and regulatory landscape
- Inspire and grow a team of engineering leaders to collaborate as one team
Requirements For Director, Engineering, Semantic User Location Platform
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant field, or equivalent practical experience
- 15 years of experience in the engineering industry, with 5 years of experience in technical management
- Experience building client platforms that power business and user use cases
- Experience designing systems with privacy guarantees for the handling of sensitive user data
