Description For Distinguished Engineer, Demand and Capacity Planning

Google's Demand and Capacity Planning tooling organization seeks a Distinguished Engineer to lead technical strategy for infrastructure resource management. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to ensure Google's infrastructure meets growing demands across Machine Learning, Cloud, and Standard Fleets.

The position requires an experienced technical leader who will drive automation and unification of demand and capacity planning systems. You'll work at the intersection of software engineering, forecasting, and supply chain management, developing sophisticated solutions for resource allocation and optimization.

The compensation package is highly competitive, ranging from $349,000-$485,000 base salary plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. Multiple location options are available including Seattle, Kirkland, and Sunnyvale.

Responsibilities For Distinguished Engineer, Demand and Capacity Planning

  • Define the technical outlook for automating and unifying demand and capacity planning across all of Google's infrastructure
  • Partner with Google's ML, Cloud, and Standard Fleet teams to drive innovations in demand and capacity planning
  • Influence the development of advanced forecasting models and algorithms
  • Develop a structure of other technical leads in the area
  • Provide development support to engineers in the area

Requirements For Distinguished Engineer, Demand and Capacity Planning

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of software engineering experience building and working with systems in a technology organization
  • 10 years of experience in applying forecasting, optimization, and supply chain management to solve problems
  • Experience in developing and implementing large-scale demand and capacity planning systems
  • Experience with enterprise programs and cloud technologies
  • Experience with Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes and tooling
  • Technical expertise in forecasting, optimization, and supply chain management
