Description For Global Commodity Manager, Power, Google Cloud

Google Cloud is seeking a Global Commodity Manager specializing in Power infrastructure to join their Technical Infrastructure team. This role is crucial in ensuring Google has the necessary supplies and equipment to support their innovative engineering products. As a Commodity Manager, you'll leverage industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize the total cost of ownership for Google's growing global infrastructure. The position involves working closely with Engineering teams, managing power hardware sourcing strategies, and maintaining crucial supplier relationships.

The Technical Infrastructure team is fundamental to Google's operations, developing and maintaining data centers and building next-generation Google platforms. This team takes pride in being the engineers' engineers, focusing on keeping networks running optimally to ensure the best user experience. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and business acumen, as even small hardware cost savings can significantly impact Google's bottom line.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in procurement and supply chain management, particularly in power systems and data center infrastructure. You'll be responsible for supplier selection, capacity planning, contract negotiations, and maintaining comprehensive market awareness. Responsibilities For Global Commodity Manager, Power, Google Cloud

  • Support cross-functional teams through supplier selection process and capacity planning for new platforms
  • Support negotiations and secure comprehensive agreements with suppliers
  • Maintain industry knowledge and keep stakeholders aware of supplier and market conditions
  • Support development of long-term sourcing strategies for Power hardware (e.g., Tray/Rack Power, Batteries) and implement supply chain improvements
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance in technology alignment, cost, quality, and delivery

Requirements For Global Commodity Manager, Power, Google Cloud

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience
  • 4 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management
  • Experience in commodity management, contract negotiation, and supplier development
  • Experience with cloud, hyperscale, or data center products
  • Experience with data center power architectures
  • Experience with supplier capacity planning, contract management, and cost modeling
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and understand new concepts
