Description For Mechanical Engineer, Thermal Systems Engineering

Google's Data Center Engineering team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Thermal Systems Engineering to join their Technical Infrastructure division. This role is crucial in shaping the future of Google's data centers through innovative design and development of mechanical systems.

The position combines hands-on engineering expertise with strategic thinking, focusing on mission-critical facility design and construction. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge strategies for power usage and environmentally-friendly facilities, working alongside a team of talented engineers and professionals.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll serve as the Technical Lead in the region, collaborating with various teams to develop new data center mechanical infrastructure products and systems. Your role involves conducting engineering analysis, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and driving infrastructure improvements.

The ideal candidate brings 10 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction, with deep knowledge of mechanical systems including cooling plants, fire suppression systems, and fuel oil systems. You'll need strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate recommendations to senior-level executives.

Requirements For Mechanical Engineer, Thermal Systems Engineering

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments
  • Experience in mission critical facilities and their mechanical infrastructure
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or relevant field, or professional engineering license (preferred)
  • Experience in estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission critical data center mechanical equipment
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical cooling plants, fire suppression systems, fuel oil systems
  • Experience designing modular building scale assemblies
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles
  • Operational knowledge of construction safety procedures
