Google is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to join their Network Team, responsible for operating Google's global network that serves millions of users worldwide. The position involves working with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, and Field Engineers to build the world's most reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network.
The role is based in the Network Operations Center environment and requires participation in 24/7 global team shift rotations. The engineer will be responsible for responding to network outages, providing diagnosis of network errors, and completing repairs across Layer 1 to Layer 3. They will also develop workflows and systems for network issue diagnosis and provide remote support for field operations.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in telecommunications at carrier scale, with expertise in optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, and data services. Knowledge of Unix/Linux administration and scripting is essential, along with deep understanding of IP Network Operations and routing protocols.
