Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a Network Operations Engineer, you'll have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You'll ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components, and responding to network connectivity issues.
You'll be part of the Technical Infrastructure team, which builds and maintains Google's architecture to support its product portfolio. This role involves responding to network outages, diagnosing Layer 1 to Layer 3 network errors, initiating and completing network repairs, and participating in 24/7 global team shift rotations. You'll also provide remote support for field operations related to network repairs and interface with high-level customers to communicate repair status and updates.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience), along with 2 years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale. You should have experience working with optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, layer2/3 routers, and data services. Strong skills in network operations and systematic troubleshooting are essential.
Preferred qualifications include experience with rack and stack, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of routers and other network equipment, as well as the ability to code in Python or a similar programming language.
