Description For Reliability Lead, Staff Software Engineering, YouTube Media Engine

Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead reliability efforts for YouTube's Media Engine platform. This role sits at the intersection of YouTube's core media technology and its major consumer experiences including Shorts, Live, and Create. The position involves leading performance and reliability initiatives as the Media Engine's Creation Platform scales across multiple product surfaces.

The role requires deep technical expertise in software development, reliability analysis, and system architecture. You'll be responsible for coordinating with product and engineering teams to identify optimization opportunities, build instrumentation for performance measurement, and establish incident response processes. The work directly impacts YouTube's mission to empower creators and connect billions of users worldwide.

As a Reliability Lead, you'll work with cross-functional teams across iOS, Android, and other platforms to drive performance improvements. Responsibilities For Reliability Lead, Staff Software Engineering, YouTube Media Engine

  • Lead and oversee multiple work streams geared towards improving the reliability and performance of Media Engine as a whole
  • Coordinate with product and partner engineering teams using Media Engine to identify pain points and optimization opportunities
  • Work with other engineers on Media Engine's iOS, Android, and cross-platform teams to consolidate performance improvements across platforms
  • Work closely with our logging and analytics team to build instrumentation to measure Media Engine performance and identify areas of improvement
  • Lead the effort to resolve reliability and performance related incidents, ensuring that processes are in place for the larger team to respond to these incidents

Requirements For Reliability Lead, Staff Software Engineering, YouTube Media Engine

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products
  • 5 years of experience with reliability analysis
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture
