Description For Security Engineer, Detection

Google is seeking a Security Engineer to join their Core team focusing on detection capabilities. This role is crucial in maintaining Google's security posture by building advanced detection mechanisms for various security threats. As part of the Core team, you'll work on creating and maintaining the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers.

The position involves hands-on work with network equipment, monitoring systems for attacks and intrusions, and collaboration with software engineers to identify and fix security vulnerabilities. You'll be responsible for developing automated remediation systems, conducting threat hunting, and performing network and systems forensics.

The Core team at Google is fundamental in building the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products. They own and advocate for underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure. This team has a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company and break down technical barriers.

Responsibilities For Security Engineer, Detection

  • Identify security issues and implement and design security controls, tools, and services to improve security systems and processes
  • Participate in a global operation that monitors and responds to security events on Google networks
  • Perform investigations on a wide variety of events from various sources to determine whether they pose a threat
  • Participate in security incidents
  • Work with teams from around Google to discover new detection capabilities and logging sources

Requirements For Security Engineer, Detection

Python
Java
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling
  • 2 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols
  • 2 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages
