Description For Security Engineer, Hardware Security, Cloud CISO

Google Cloud is seeking a Security Engineer to join their Hardware Security team within the Cloud CISO organization. This role focuses on securing off-the-shelf hardware/firmware used in Cloud products, working at the intersection of hardware security and cloud infrastructure.

The position involves conducting comprehensive security reviews of critical hardware components like Hardware Security Modules, Servers, Switches, and Solid State Drives. You'll be responsible for identifying vulnerabilities, developing threat models, and working closely with vendors to implement security improvements.

As a Security Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the trustworthiness of Google Cloud's hardware foundation. You'll leverage your expertise in reverse engineering, hardware architecture, and firmware security to protect against sophisticated hardware and firmware threats. The role requires both technical depth and strong communication skills, as you'll frequently present findings to technical and organizational leadership.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on security engineering experience with the ability to influence and drive change across multiple stakeholder groups. You'll be part of a collaborative team that's passionate about hardware security and works closely with industry partners to advance the state of the art in secure hardware design.

This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge hardware security challenges at scale, while contributing to the security posture of one of the world's largest cloud providers. You'll be based in Zürich, working with a global team of security experts and having a direct impact on the security of Google Cloud's infrastructure.

Responsibilities For Security Engineer, Hardware Security, Cloud CISO

  • Identify business critical hardware/firmware devices within Cloud for team review
  • Perform in-depth and holistic hardware and firmware security review of critical business devices
  • Write detailed threat models and reports to support and augment reviews
  • Present risk findings and mitigation recommendations to leadership
  • Inform vendors of hardware and firmware vulnerabilities
  • Partner with vendors to advocate for necessary design changes
  • Collaborate with team members on attack scenarios and mitigation strategies

Requirements For Security Engineer, Hardware Security, Cloud CISO

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience in the Security field
  • Experience in a Reverse Engineering role
  • Experience with Hardware System Architecture
  • Experience with Firmware
  • Experience with hardware or firmware security
  • Understanding of both offensive and defensive security methods
  • Ability to influence others without authority
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
