Description For Senior Systems Development Engineer, Silicon

Google is seeking a Senior Systems Development Engineer for their Silicon team. This role focuses on managing services and systems at scale, emphasizing automation, observability, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Linux systems, programming skills (particularly in Python and Bash), and a strong background in technical infrastructure management.

Key responsibilities include architecting and maintaining computing infrastructure, improving Linux environments on Google Cloud Platform, and troubleshooting complex technical issues. The role also involves participating in on-call rotations and monitoring production systems.

Responsibilities For Senior Systems Development Engineer, Silicon

  • Architect, implement, and maintain computing infrastructure for use by internal teams
  • Create new, and improve existing, Linux computing, storage, and networking environments running on Google Cloud Platform
  • Improve operations work and reduce support toil by proposing and implementing automation and process improvements
  • Troubleshoot advanced technical issues within a large scale Linux computing environment
  • Participate in limited on-call rotation and monitoring of production distributed computing infrastructure

Requirements For Senior Systems Development Engineer, Silicon

Linux

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT-related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience with Linux operating systems internals and administration, technical infrastructure (e.g., deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting), and with reliability of technical infrastructure
  • 3 years of experience with one or more programming/scripting languages (Python, Bash)
