Description For Software Engineer, Chrome Browser Infrastructure

Google is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Chrome Browser Infrastructure team, focusing on developing and maintaining the underlying infrastructure for building and testing Chrome across desktop and mobile platforms. This role is part of Google's broader mission to improve the web through Chrome, which is available across all major platforms.

The position involves working with continuous integration (CI) systems that are publicly visible, as Chromium receives external code contributions daily. The team's primary goal is to enhance development speed while maintaining quality standards across all release platforms. This role offers an opportunity to work on critical infrastructure that supports one of Google's key products.

As a Software Engineer in this team, you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining build, test, and release infrastructure, including hardware and software components across data centers. You'll need to be comfortable with on-call responsibilities and possess strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting urgent issues. The role requires excellent documentation and communication skills, as you'll be contributing to user education and system documentation.

The ideal candidate will have experience with developer tools, infrastructure around builds, tests, and releases, as well as familiarity with Cloud Computing or Linux development environments. Responsibilities For Software Engineer, Chrome Browser Infrastructure

  • Create and maintain continuous build, test and release infrastructure including the associated hardware, software and other dependent components across Data centers
  • Contribute to documentation and user education based on system updates and user feedback
  • Triage/debug/track/resolve issues to maintain system operational excellence
  • Be available on-call to troubleshoot and fix urgent issues

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
