Description For Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering

Google's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. As an SRE, you'll ensure Google Cloud's services maintain reliability and appropriate uptime while managing complex challenges of scale. The role focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and automation. You'll work with data structures, algorithms, and large-scale system design. The team values diversity, intellectual curiosity, and problem-solving in a blame-free environment. You'll collaborate with professionals from various backgrounds, take calculated risks, and work on meaningful projects while receiving support and mentorship for professional growth. Responsibilities For Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering

  • Write product or system development code
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product or program updates and user feedback
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies

Requirements For Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering

Linux
Kubernetes
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience with data structures/algorithms and software development in one or more programming languages
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering (preferred)
  • 2 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems (preferred)
