Description For Software Engineering Manager, Payments Platform

Google is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for their Payments Platform team. This role involves leading and managing a team of engineers working on the payments platform used across Google properties, with a focus on the platform for India and the global stack. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise and leadership skills to oversee projects, contribute to product strategy, and develop their team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set and communicate team priorities aligned with organizational goals
  • Manage performance and development of team members
  • Develop mid-term technical ideas and roadmaps
  • Design and guide system designs within the broader area
  • Review code and ensure best practices

The Payments team at Google is dedicated to making payments simple, seamless, and secure across various platforms, including online Autofill, tap and pay in stores, and the Google Pay app. This role will focus on bringing support for new payment protocols in the region to the Payments Platform.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience (Master's or PhD preferred)
  • 8 years of software development experience
  • 3 years in a technical leadership role
  • 2 years of people management experience
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript
  • Experience working in an evolving organization

  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching

  • Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated requirements and infrastructure needs
  • Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area
  • Write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices
