Google's Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Staff Mechanical Product Design Engineer, you will design and evaluate data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google's continued growth.
The role involves owning and designing the product design life-cycle, requirements gathering, concept generation, detailed design with analysis, verification testing, cross-functional reviews, and manufacturing release. You will develop and execute designs for systems backed by engineering analysis, create test plans, perform testing, and validate designs to meet engineering requirements.
This is a specialized role which requires physical interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment. Regular development and processing of engineering hardware must be performed on site.
You will also influence and shape future products by providing mechanical and product design engineering knowledge into the technology roadmap with data-driven decisions, and provide engineering knowledge and mentor team members.
