Staff Software Engineer, AI Innovation and Research

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day.

This role is part of the AI Innovation and Research (AIR) organization, specifically within the AI and Research Accelerator (AIRX) and On-Device Intelligence (ODI) teams. AIRX's mission is to develop and launch AI experiences across priority Platforms and Devices initiatives, partnering closely with product teams to guide them through AI integration. AIR On-Device Intelligence focuses on researching, building, and shipping technology to enable OS-level Agentic Experiences with an emphasis on on-device, and enable the next gen Gemini-based user interaction.

As a Staff Software Engineer in this role, you will:

• Provide direct technical guidance to a high-performing team of AI/ML software engineers
• Offer expert-level technical guidance in machine learning and AI development
• Encourage an engineering culture focused on innovation and technical aptitude
• Work closely with the Mountain View-based Engagements team
• Lead the development, training, evaluation, and deployment of AI/ML models

This role requires a blend of technical expertise in AI/ML and leadership skills to drive innovation and deliver impactful AI solutions.
