GSK's Onyx Research Data Platform organization is seeking a Staff Data Engineer and Team Lead to join their innovative team. This role is part of a major investment by GSK R&D and Digital & Tech, focused on leveraging data, knowledge, and prediction to discover new medicines. The position offers an opportunity to lead a team of world-class data engineers while building automated, scalable data pipelines for evolving scientific needs.

The role combines technical leadership with team management, requiring expertise in data engineering, cloud technologies, and DevOps practices. You'll be responsible for architecting data delivery strategies, implementing best practices, and ensuring quality management standards. The position involves close collaboration with Platform teams and Bioinformatics teams to align tools, workflows, and data schemas.

Responsibilities For Staff Data Engineer and Team Lead

  • Lead a team of data engineers in delivering data and knowledge products
  • Architect data delivery and operational strategy
  • Partner with other data engineering leads to design new data flows
  • Ensure proper engineering discipline and QMS framework implementation
  • Design innovative strategies and coordinate stepwise implementation plans
  • Spearhead improvement within engineering area
  • Act as technical knowledge holder for the organization

Requirements For Staff Data Engineer and Team Lead

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline
  • Strong data engineering experience in industry
  • Software engineering experience
  • Experience leading a matrix data engineering team
  • Experience with high volume, high compute challenges
  • Cloud experience (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with DevOps practices
  • Deep experience with big data tools (Spark, Kafka, Storm)
  • CI/CD implementation experience
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools
  • Expertise in data modeling, database concepts and SQL
