Description For R&D Engineer I

Impossible Foods is seeking an R&D Engineer I to join their innovative team in Redwood City, California. This role involves designing and building complex mechanical systems at both lab bench and pilot scale, working closely with scientists. The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of pilot operations and lab-scale equipment, making significant contributions to innovative projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting mechanical equipment and control systems
  • Communicating with manufacturers and vendors for custom equipment
  • Performing basic machining and CNC in-house
  • Participating in experimental testing and trial runs
  • Implementing continuous improvement initiatives

The ideal candidate will have:

  • B.S in engineering (mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, electrical, chemical, or related fields) with 1-3 years of work experience
  • Excellent CAD and modeling software skills
  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining lab, pilot, and manufacturing scale machinery
  • Solid experience with CNC machines and tools
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
