Description For Automation Engineer

JLL, a Fortune 500® company with over 200 years of history in commercial real estate and investment management, is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join their team. The position focuses on designing, developing, and implementing automation control systems for industrial processes and warehouse distribution equipment. The successful candidate will work with various technologies including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, as you'll be expected to mentor less experienced team members and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key technical aspects include working with PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus), motor control systems, and electrical distribution systems. The role requires strong programming skills in Ladder Logic and various automation platforms, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems both locally and remotely.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $90,000 to $135,000 USD annually, along with comprehensive benefits including 401(k) with company match, medical/dental/vision insurance, and paid parental leave. Responsibilities For Automation Engineer

  • Site technical expert in automation control systems
  • Train and mentor Automation Apprentices
  • Design and develop control systems and software programs
  • Implement and optimize automation processes
  • Maintain and troubleshoot control systems and machinery
  • Monitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations
  • Act as first level escalation support
  • Facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Drive continuous improvement projects
  • Communicate technical issues and project timelines

Requirements For Automation Engineer

Python
  • 2+ years of experience with PLC-controlled automation
  • 2+ years of experience with robotics work cells and control systems
  • 2+ years of experience with Ladder Logic and structure programming
  • Advanced proficiency in verbal and written English
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Problem-solving mindset for debugging systems
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders
  • Advanced degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent preferred
  • Experience with programming software such as RSLogix5000 studio
  • Experience with industrial electrical systems
