Description For Project Engineer - Software

Kepler Communications is revolutionizing space connectivity with their mission to deliver Internet infrastructure for the growing space economy. With 23 satellites already in orbit and plans for an optical constellation, they're at the forefront of space technology innovation. The Project Engineer - Software role is a crucial position that bridges the gap between flight and ground software systems. The ideal candidate will spend 50% of their time on scope, schedule, and cost management, 30% on cross-functional coordination, and 20% on risk management and stakeholder communication. This role requires a unique blend of technical software expertise and project management skills, particularly in embedded systems and space technology. The position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge space technology while leading complex engineering efforts that directly impact the company's mission of building a scalable communications platform in space. Responsibilities For Project Engineer - Software

  • Lead execution of embedded and ground software deliverables across assigned work packages
  • Manage cost, schedule, and scope from concept through delivery
  • Coordinate across disciplines to ensure consistent progress and technical direction
  • Support interface development and integration between spacecraft and ground infrastructure
  • Run technical milestone planning and readiness
  • Drive issue resolution, risk mitigation, and schedule recovery
  • Maintain alignment between program-level objectives and engineering work
  • Ensure adherence to software processes, quality standards, and system-level requirements

Requirements For Project Engineer - Software

Linux
  • BS Degree in Software, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or similar
  • 5+ years in technical leadership or project engineering roles
  • Experience delivering software-heavy systems
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and development lifecycle
  • Solid grasp of development, verification, and validation practices
  • Proficient in schedule management and cost estimation
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments
  • Comfortable working in mixed hardware and software environments
  • Familiar with modern software workflows including CI and CD
  • Effective communicator and decision-maker
