Description For Staff Hardware Engineer, Chip Bring-up

Lightmatter builds chips that enable extreme-scale artificial intelligence computing clusters. The company invented the world's first 3D-stacked photonics engine, Passage™, capable of connecting thousands to millions of processors at the speed of light in extreme-scale data centers for the most advanced AI and HPC workloads.

In this role, you will design, develop, build, and test photonic systems that are key to our products. You will also interact with device, hardware, and software design teams to assist in the overall development of photonic systems, specifying, selecting, and qualifying the various components necessary.

As a Staff Hardware Engineer on the Photonics team, you will drive chip bring-up, testing and characterization of our Silicon Photonics based Optical Interconnect Products. Your responsibilities include:

  • Gaining a good understanding of chip specifications to take responsibility for chip bring-up, testing, and validation of next-generation Optical Interconnect products.
  • Contributing to test plan development, test bench configuration planning, set-up of lab test equipment, and troubleshooting of validation setups.
  • Working collaboratively with the product validation team on Electro-Optic link level testing using industry standard practices and equipment.

Responsibilities For Staff Hardware Engineer, Chip Bring-up

  • Gain understanding of chip specifications for chip bring-up, testing and validation of Optical Interconnect products
  • Contribute to test plan development, test bench configuration planning, and lab equipment setup
  • Work collaboratively with the product validation team on Electro-Optic link level testing
  • Support developing chip validation plans aligned to product specifications, xDVT and interoperability testing
  • Troubleshoot validation setups for successful chip bring-up and testing

Requirements For Staff Hardware Engineer, Chip Bring-up

  • BSEE and MSEE with 5-8 years experience in Data Communication field working on Electro-Optic link level testing and characterization in a lab environment
  • Familiarity with PCB designs including HW test and debug for Electro Optic circuits
  • Ability to work closely with Design Engineers, SW Engineers and wider cross-functional teams
  • Hands-on experience using standard bench test equipment for data communications including Electro Optic link testing and characterization
  • Basic scripting skills for automation of lab tests including analysis of results and report generation
