Software Engineer I

We are looking for a Software Engineer I to join one of our Core Platform Engineering teams at Marqeta! The Core Platform Engineering team is responsible for developing and managing the Marqeta platform, which our customers use to launch and manage their payment card programs. These teams work with card networks and issuing banks to issue cards, authorize transactions, and communicate with settlement entities.

As a Software Engineer I, you will deliver high-quality production-ready code with direction from the team. You will execute on defined tasks and contribute to solving problems with defined solutions. You will work with other Software Engineers on a feature they own, working on bug fixing and some of the implementation. You will primarily focus on improving your craft as an engineer and leverage it to deliver on defined individual tasks.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely within British Columbia or Ontario Canada.

The Impact You'll Have:

• Develop and deliver high-quality production-ready code with assistance.
• Execute defined tasks and tickets prepared by more senior engineers.
• Contribute to solving problems.
• Work with other software engineers on features they own, working on bug fixing and some of the implementation.
• Participate in core processes of the team (planning, on-call rotations, bug triage, metrics review, etc).

Who You Are:

• Bachelor's degree. In lieu of a degree, 2+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
• Understanding of programming and the ability to write code.
• Receptivity to feedback, self-aware, and committed to producing work of high quality.
• Ability to complete tasks on time in collaboration with others.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, take ownership, and ask questions.
• Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and respectful manner both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated respect towards others, with a positive and open-minded approach.

Nice to haves:

• Experience developing in Java and/or Python, however we welcome experience in other programming languages.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
• Experience with payments or the FinTech space.
• Experience with Microservices.
• Experience with Java Spring Boot.
• Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker.
• Experience with cloud computing. We use AWS, but welcome other cloud experience.
