Description For Lead Platform Engineer

Mastercard, a global leader in digital payment solutions operating in over 200 countries, is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer to join their Global Network Operations organization. This role is pivotal in managing their Global Routing and Edge Caching Services team.

The position focuses on ensuring Mastercard's global web traffic maintains optimal performance, security, and high availability through the management of Akamai ION/CDN services, DNS/DHCP infrastructure, and F5 GTM systems. The role combines technical expertise in content delivery networks with infrastructure management and automation capabilities.

As a Lead Platform Engineer, you'll be responsible for configuring and maintaining critical infrastructure components, performing root-cause analysis, and working under tight SLAs to resolve incidents affecting global web delivery. The role requires collaboration with various teams, including software engineering, cybersecurity, and product teams, to design and implement resilient content delivery strategies.

The ideal candidate brings at least 3 years of hands-on experience with enterprise CDN platforms and network engineering, along with strong technical troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of DNS/DHCP systems, particularly Infoblox, and F5 GTM configurations is essential. The role also involves participation in on-call rotation and contribution to Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives using tools like Terraform and Ansible.

Responsibilities For Lead Platform Engineer

  • Configure and maintain Akamai ION/CDN services, including routing rules, cache optimization, certificate renewals, and delivery debugging
  • Perform root-cause analysis and triage incidents affecting global web delivery
  • Define and maintain Akamai policies aligned with performance, security, and redundancy goals
  • Manage enterprise DNS/DHCP environment via Infoblox
  • Support and enhance F5 Global Traffic Manager configurations
  • Work cross-functionally with software engineering, cybersecurity, and product teams
  • Participate in on-call rotation for CDN/DNS support
  • Contribute to automation and Infrastructure-as-Code efforts

Requirements For Lead Platform Engineer

Kubernetes
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience implementing and supporting Akamai ION/CDN or comparable enterprise CDN platform
  • 3+ years of experience in network engineering, site reliability engineering, or web performance optimization
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills across DNS, DHCP, CDN, or HTTP/S delivery chains
  • Familiarity with enterprise DNS/DHCP systems (Infoblox preferred)
  • Working knowledge of F5 GTM configurations and load balancing strategies
  • Experience with certificates, including renewals and automated deployment
  • Self-starter with a passion for continuous learning
  • Excellent communication skills
