Medtronic, a global leader in healthcare technology, is seeking a Distinguished Systems Engineer for their Diabetes Operating Unit. This role represents a unique opportunity to contribute to life-changing medical technology in the field of diabetes care.

The position focuses on developing best-in-class solutions for both Multiple Daily Injection (MDI) and Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) algorithms. As a Distinguished Systems Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in bridging systems architecture, design, integration, and system performance characterization. This is a technical leadership position requiring extensive experience in complex medical device development.

The role combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, as you'll be contributing to system architecture and leading system designs for complex medical products. You'll conduct multidisciplinary research, collaborating with firmware and hardware engineers in the planning, design, and development of products, with a particular focus on characterization and risk mitigation for low-level hardware algorithms.

As a Distinguished Systems Engineer, you'll be recognized as a technical authority within Medtronic, planning R&D projects and recommending technological solutions to accomplish medium to long-range objectives. Your work will directly impact the business unit's functional area, influencing business decisions made by leadership. You'll be expected to guide the business unit in new technical directions and foster technical innovation.

The position offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $196,000 to $294,000, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with employer match, stock purchase plans, and educational assistance. This hybrid role is based in Los Angeles, California, allowing for a balance between remote and office work.

Working at Medtronic means joining a team of 95,000+ passionate employees worldwide, united by the mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. The company culture emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and making a real difference in patients' lives through technology.

This role requires either a Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with 13+ years of experience. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of technical leadership, system architecture design, and the ability to mentor other technical experts in multiple dimensions (Hardware, Software, Cloud, Security, etc.).
