MetalBear is an innovative startup developing mirrord, a groundbreaking open-source tool that revolutionizes Kubernetes development. Their solution enables developers to run local code directly in Kubernetes clusters without the traditional hassles of redeployment or mocking.

As the Lead Windows Engineer, you'll spearhead the crucial initiative of porting mirrord to Windows, taking full ownership of this greenfield project. This role combines deep Windows systems programming expertise with the opportunity to shape core architecture decisions. You'll work with advanced concepts like DLL injection, API hooking, and Windows internals while ensuring the solution maintains the high-quality developer experience mirrord is known for.

The position offers the unique opportunity to join a product-led, remote-first startup with strong open-source principles. Recently funded and progressing toward Series A, MetalBear provides an environment where you'll have direct impact on product direction through close collaboration with founders. Responsibilities For Lead Windows Engineer (Global)

  • Design and implement a userspace-compatible port of mirrord for Windows environments
  • Build/integrate tools for DLL injection and API hooking
  • Handle cross-compilation and process spawning for Windows binaries in Rust
  • Collaborate with team to maintain code structure across platforms
  • Ensure clean CLI experience for Windows users
  • Ship minimal working version and iterate toward full feature parity

Requirements For Lead Windows Engineer (Global)

Rust
  • Strong experience in Windows systems programming
  • Experience with DLL injection, API hooking, Windows API
  • Familiarity with Win32 internals
  • Solid command of Rust (or willingness to learn with strong C/C++ background)
  • Proven ability to work independently on low-level problems
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Kubernetes, networking, or open source tooling
  • Bonus: Prior experience with Frida, WinDivert, EasyHook, or similar projects
