Description For Category and Strategic Sourcing Manager - Construction Services

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is seeking a Category and Strategic Sourcing Manager - Construction Services to lead the sourcing of construction services for their datacenter build program across the AMER region. This role is part of the strategic Supply Chain team responsible for establishing a supply chain to meet the growing needs of the Cloud and customers. The position involves supporting a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-billion, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Defining and executing sourcing strategies for complex projects
  2. Managing contract and price negotiations for construction categories
  3. Ensuring compliance with policies and managing supplier performance
  4. Developing pricing and negotiation strategies for complex purchasing categories
  5. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers
  6. Driving early business engagements and developing supplier account plans

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction supply chain and procurement, with experience in large complex capital projects. Knowledge of the datacenter industry and mission-critical experience is preferred. The role requires excellent analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills, as well as the ability to work independently in a matrix environment.

This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge cloud infrastructure projects and contribute to Microsoft's mission of empowering every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. The role is eligible for hybrid or remote work up to 50% of the time and is located in one of the hub locations: Atlanta, GA; Washington, D.C.; Redmond, WA; San Antonio, TX; or Phoenix, AZ.

  • Manage contract and price negotiation activities for construction categories
  • Ensure compliance with policies and manage supplier performance
  • Develop pricing and negotiation strategies for complex purchasing categories
  • Drive early business engagements with cross-functional leadership
  • Collaborate with suppliers and develop supplier account plans
  • Process complex procurement requests and manage resolution of escalated pricing issues
  • Execute contracts and monitor impact of change orders
  • Develop sourcing strategies for early enabling works scopes across multiple geographies in AMER

Requirements For Category and Strategic Sourcing Manager - Construction Services

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Statistics, or related field
  • 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, logistics, operations-related roles, or engineering
  • 8+ years of construction experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in a cross-functional team environment on dynamic large scale capital and/or hyperscale datacenter programs
  • 3+ years of experience negotiating master agreements
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
