Description For Cloud Network Engineer II

Microsoft Digital (MSD) is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer II to join their Infrastructure Engineering Services (IES) organization. This role sits at the heart of Microsoft's modern network engineering process, working with teams that manage Microsoft's corporate hybrid hosting infrastructures and enable workload migrations to Azure.

As a Cloud Network Engineer II, you'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining critical network infrastructure that powers Microsoft's global operations. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies and protocols including IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, BGP, and overlay technologies such as EVPN and VXLAN. The role requires strong technical expertise in network design, development, and automation, with hands-on experience in both Linux and Windows environments.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of technical experience in network engineering, along with strong scripting skills in languages like Python, PowerShell, and C#. You'll collaborate across teams, participate in design reviews, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Microsoft's network infrastructure. The role includes on-call responsibilities and requires strong troubleshooting abilities to maintain service reliability.

Responsibilities For Cloud Network Engineer II

  • Design and implement network infrastructure
  • Create bill of materials and translate high-level design into low-level design
  • Participate in network design and code reviews
  • Monitor, analyze, debug and troubleshoot network infrastructure
  • Participate in on-call/DRI duties
  • Manage network deployments and security compliance
  • Collaborate across teams and mentor other engineers

Requirements For Cloud Network Engineer II

Python
Linux
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, IT or related field with 2+ years experience
  • 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
  • Experience with network routing protocols (IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, BGP)
  • Scripting skills (Perl, Python, PowerShell, C#) in Linux and Windows environments
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud background check
