Description For Hardware Engineering Intern

Microsoft is offering a Hardware Engineering Internship opportunity for students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. As a Hardware Engineering Intern, you'll design, develop, modify, and evaluate components used in electronic devices involving mechanical systems and equipment, and/or the manipulation and transmission of electricity. You'll define design approaches, technical specifications, and parameters for devices, ensuring that designs and specifications document test requirements that account for customer use scenarios. The role involves selecting materials and components based on analysis of specifications and reliability, potentially working with suppliers to select optimal materials and components for devices. You'll develop test plans and test cases, and may direct support personnel or other engineers in the preparation and execution of design testing or prototype fabrication.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the creation of robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and/or verification plans for hardware engineering aspects of well-defined products or features.
  • Reading device specification sheets and interpreting common details required to design and test various hardware features.
  • Ensuring test requirements are included in documentation and specifications for features or products.
  • Obtaining input from functional experts regarding opportunities to affect downstream execution of projects.
  • Strategically and creatively innovating ways to communicate and visualize user experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • At least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.
  • Knowledge of embedded programming and C/C++/C# concepts is preferred.
