Description For Mechanical Engineer - Data Center Operations

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their data center operations team. This role is crucial in delivering core infrastructure for Microsoft's global cloud services, including Azure, Office 365, Xbox, and more. The position offers an opportunity to work with a massive infrastructure spanning 200+ datacenters across 32 countries, serving over 1 billion customers worldwide.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing critical data center operations, focusing on environmental sustainability and operational excellence. You'll work with state-of-the-art mechanical systems, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the design and implementation of new data center projects.

The role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic thinking, requiring someone who can handle both day-to-day operations and long-term infrastructure planning. Responsibilities For Mechanical Engineer - Data Center Operations

  • Learn, grow, and develop new skills
  • Empower culture of safety, security, and compliance in data center activities
  • Understand datacenter design and functionality
  • Support 24x7x365 on-site datacenter operations and mechanical infrastructures
  • Act as technical authority for on-site operations of large-scale mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with Operations and Design team on data center mechanical designs
  • Establish and coordinate maintenance & safety procedures
  • Steward vital infrastructure supporting Microsoft's online services
  • Assist with supplier selection and overseeing mechanical supplier execution
  • Lead through change and promote One Microsoft culture and values

Requirements For Mechanical Engineer - Data Center Operations

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 2+ years experience, OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 1+ years experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years
