Description For Member of Technical Staff – AI Product - Data Engineer

Microsoft AI (MAI) is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join the Growth team and contribute to the evolution of AI systems, focusing on the personal AI assistant, Copilot. This role involves managing critical data pipelines and systems that drive the intelligence behind Microsoft's products. The position is based in Mountain View, CA, requiring 3 days per week in office.

The role combines traditional data engineering with cutting-edge AI development, working on some of the most interesting and challenging AI questions of our time. You'll be part of Microsoft's vision to build systems with true artificial intelligence across agents, applications, services, and infrastructure, making AI accessible to all.

As a Data Engineer, you'll work with Azure's comprehensive tech stack, including Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse Analytics. You'll be responsible for building and maintaining scalable data pipelines, collaborating with ML engineers and data scientists, and ensuring the reliability and performance of data infrastructure.

Responsibilities For Member of Technical Staff – AI Product - Data Engineer

  • Build code to extract raw data, validate its quality, and transform it for downstream compatibility
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines
  • Integrate real-time and batch-processing pipelines
  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers for data preparation and model evaluation
  • Work with data scientists to identify opportunities and drive data-driven decisions
  • Manage feature storage systems and develop real-time streaming pipelines
  • Optimize workflows for seamless integration
  • Implement performance monitoring and troubleshoot issues

Requirements For Member of Technical Staff – AI Product - Data Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4 years experience
  • OR Master's Degree in related field AND 3 years experience
  • 3 years of experience shipping product at scale
  • Proficiency with Azure tools (Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Stream Analytics)
  • Experience with PySpark or similar technologies
